J Gerlich Photo Imaging Techniques
For nearly four decades, I have endeavored to communicate my vision with passion and proficiency. My photographic explorations of light and tone exhibit a powerful counterpoint to communicate a sense of place and evoke feelings of connection. I strive to provide my audience a glimpse into the soul of my subjects through bold and brilliant colors, dramatic contrast and the harmonious interplay of light, lens and film.
My experience across nature and landscape, photo journalism, commercial studio work and distinctive portraiture has honed my responsiveness to convey a unique perspective in my fine artwork. My art has, over the last 40 years, allowed me to travel with my wife Kat and explore diverse subject matter, typically emphasizing natural and/or historic themes. I am honored to have had my work featured on magazine covers as well as on display in public, private and corporate venues, and to have been invited to exhibit at 'Top 50' fine art festivals and international exhibitions.
As a traditionalist, I have always favored medium- to large-film formats for their sharp quality and ability to capture detailed information. Now that technology has refined digital capture capabilities, I find myself equally at home with the digital format and utilize this medium also.
As an artist, I strive to communicate the soul of my subject so as to touch and inspire viewers to act in the interest of preservation. For years I struggled to present my work in an environmentally conscientious manner. Creative meets conscience in the innovative presentation that I have adopted as my standard.
